Just before fording to the north side of the Truckee River, the road forked, with the left-hand route following the old Truckee route to Sacramento and the right-hand route, the one traveled by East S. Owen, being Beckwiths Cutoff, also known as the Beckwourth Trail, on August 22, 1852.
