Big Cypress Tree State Park is a 330-acre natural area in Tennessee within the Obion River watershed. It is named for a huge bald cypress that once stood there and shaped the identity of the landscape. Estimated to be about 1,350 years old, the tree was killed by lightning in 1976. The park’s central significance lies in preserving the place where that famous tree stood along with the surrounding wetland environment. It remains valued both as a natural setting and as the enduring memory of one of Tennessee’s most remarkable trees.
