Wheels of Progress represents the evolution of transportation through four giant wheels: one in stone symbolizing the prehistoric era, one in wood symbolizing the Middle Ages, one in raw steel representing the industrial age, and one in stainless steel representing the modern age. It was conceptualized by Craig Shannon and Mike Whalen of Heart of America and custom crafted by Amie Jacobsen and Dick Jobe of Machine Head in Kansas City, Missouri.
