The plunge pool stood beside the second sawmill and textile mill. Built of massive ironstone blocks, it was designed to protect the mills from flood and erosion. After powering the wheel, water was collected in the plunge pool and funneled through a stone-lined channel back into Pond Creek to flow harmlessly downstream away from the complex.
