The Buckeye Trail is Ohio's State Scenic Trail, a route of more than 1400 miles winding around Ohio from a Lake Erie beach to a hilltop overlooking the Ohio River, through the rock formations of Hocking Hills and the broad forests of eastern Ohio. First envisioned in the late 1950's as a trail from the Ohio River to Lake Erie, it evolved into a large loop that in essence is endless, allowing hikers to begin at any point and continue as long as they want without ever reaching an end. The trail is regularly maintained by passionate, hardworking volunteers of the Buckeye Trail Association, whose chapters host group hikes, assist thru-hikers, and work to bring more people outside on the trails.
