Jesse Stuart, Kentucky Poet Laureate, was born in 1906 and lived most of his life in W-Hollow near Greenup. An educator and prolific writer, he authored books, short stories, and poems portraying Appalachian Kentucky. He received a Guggenheim fellowship in 1937 and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry in 1977. His works include The Thread That Runs So True and Man with a Bull-Tongue Plow.
