William J. Knight, a Civil War veteran born on Jan. 24, 1837 in Apple Creek, Ohio, was a Union soldier who voluntarily took part in Andrew's Raid. He lived in Stryker, Ohio. After escaping capture by the Confederates in September of 1863, he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his bravery and accomplishments in the raid. He died on September 26, 1916 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Stryker, Ohio.
