On Oct. 8, 1862, during the Battle of Perryville, Gen. Jones Withers' troops of Gen. Kirby Smith's CSA army attacked the USA force of Gen. J.W. Sill near Fox Creek while Smith skirmished with Sill's rear guard. Many Union prisoners and 20 wagons were captured. A Confederate shot seven Federals but later was killed. He and four others are buried in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
