A vernacular style beach cottage was built for Arnold Gates Davis (1848-1917), a naturalist, and his wife, Katherine W. Rowe (1854-1928), natives of New York state. It was purchased in 1945 by cotton broker James S. Patteson, Jr. (1897-1977) and his wife, Marie W. Rosebrock (1907-1990), a native of Mecklenberg County, N.C.
