Organized by the Rt. Rev. Lemuel H. Wells, bishop of the Spokane Missionary District, who presided at confirmations on August 4, 1895, this Episcopal church was built with logs gathered by local Episcopalians, who in 1896 established a logging camp in what is now the Granite Falls area to provide material and money for construction. Teams of horses hauled the logs to the lake to be towed to town by the steamer “Stehekin.” A stone foundation was laid in 1897, construction continued through 1898, and the log building was completed in 1898 to a design by Kirtland Kelsey Cutter of Spokane. The first worship service, scheduled for Christmas Eve 1898, had to be held in the Exhibition Hall because seats were not yet in place in the new building. The first Eucharist in the building was celebrated in January 1899, and the bell tower and bell were added later that year. The original pews were replaced with the present seating around 1920, but apart from the addition of electric lighting and forced-air heating, the building has been well maintained in essentially original condition and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
