Norwood Mound is a prehistoric Native American burial earthwork in Norwood, Ohio, in the Cincinnati area. An elliptical mound about 100 by 130 feet and 15.5 feet high, it was likely built in the Pre-Columbian era by people of the Adena culture. Its prominent hilltop location suggests ceremonial use and possible smoke signaling. Unusually for a mound near a major city, it appears to have survived without excavation or major destruction. Artifacts found nearby by early settlers later formed the nucleus of the Cincinnati Art Museum’s Native American collection. In 1974, the site was added to the National Register of Historic Places for its archaeological significance and rare urban survival.
