Mount Izaak Walton is a 12,077-foot summit in California’s Sierra Nevada, within the John Muir Wilderness and Sierra National Forest. Rising on the Silver Divide northeast of Lake Thomas A. Edison, it is distinguished by steep local relief, with its northwest face climbing sharply above Izaak Walton Lake. Its waters drain by way of Fish Creek and Mono Creek into the San Joaquin River. Named in 1919 and officially adopted in 1926, the peak honors English writer Izaak Walton, author of The Compleat Angler, a fitting connection at the head of Fish Creek. Its first recorded ascent came on July 5, 1971.
