The Old Garrison stood on this lot on the flats near the creek as the fourth fortress erected in Franklin during the Indian Wars. It was built in 1796, occupied by United States troops until 1799, kept in repair until the organization of Venango County in 1805, and used as a jail until 1819, when the first regular jail was built on South Park. Its works remained in a fair state of preservation until 1834, and part of the ruins were still visible as late as 1885 before being removed by the present owner.
