Samuel Anderson Kennedy, 1826-1896, was a pioneer settler of Mars Boro, first known as Overbrook Station, who deeded this tract of ground to the Reformed Presbyterian Church in 1877. A religious and prosperous farmer active in civic and community growth, Kennedy gave the property with the stipulation that it remain a psalm singing church, otherwise the tract would revert to the Kennedy heirs. The Reformed Presbyterian Church used this parcel of ground from 1877 to 1983. In 1902, the First Presbyterian Church was given a deed to a portion of the tract with the stipulation that it be used only for religious purposes. This tract reverted back to the Kennedy heirs in 1988, and the Kennedy heirs property was to be known as Samuel Kennedy Memorial Park, dedicated by Lester L. Kennedy in 1990.
