Early work in the Borger oil field depended on specialized equipment not only for drilling, pumping, storage, refining, and distribution, but also for moving heavy machinery, supplying power, and maintaining critical operations. Among the surviving remnants are heavy-duty transport dollies, which oil workers used, often in groups and sometimes with horses or oxen, to move very heavy equipment across rough terrain to remote locations; an electric generator powered by a gas or diesel engine, which helped transform work in the field by providing electricity before it became widely available, replacing reliance on animals, engines, manpower, oil lamps, and torches for many tasks; a travelling block, part of the block and tackle system on a drilling rig, which moved up and down between the crown block and the rig floor to lift the drill stem and other heavy components used in drilling a well; and a Schramm air compressor, which supplied compressed air to operate equipment and tools needed to maintain machinery.
