Hoodoo is a ski resort in Oregon’s central Cascade Range near Santiam Pass on U.S. Route 20, operating on federal land in the Willamette National Forest on Hoodoo Butte. Established in 1938 by a group backed by Bend businessman Ed Thurston, it grew after World War II with lodging and chairlifts as Cascade skiing expanded. Fire shaped its history when a 1967 forest fire spared the lodge but destroyed an old chairlift, and the lodge itself burned in April 1968. Later owners added lifts, lodging, and tubing facilities. Today Hoodoo remains a practical, family-oriented pass resort with extensive downhill and Nordic terrain.
