From 1917 to 1919, the American Legion Auxiliary Penacook Unit No. 31 honored those who served in World War I, including Harry Bassett, Richard Clark, Roy Holland, Harry Lambrukas, Harold McNeil, and Theresa Murphy, who made the supreme sacrifice, along with many other local men and women named in memory and recognition of their service. The monument was dedicated on November 11, 1924.
