Founders Park Plaza presents the first developed part of Rapid City in concrete, showing the town in colored concrete set skewed on its foundation in uncolored concrete and oriented toward magnetic north as the founders laid it out. Bordered by West and East Boulevards, South Street, and Omaha Street, the plaza names and numbers the streets and shows blocks with many of their buildings and landmarks. Along the dust-colored streets, the names of banks, the newspaper office, hotels, a hardware store, livery stable, schools and churches, city hall, library hall, utilities, the firehouse, and other important businesses and landmarks are inscribed, preserving a sense of the vitality of the budding community. Near the entrance are engraved bricks donated by supporters who helped make Founders Park Plaza happen.
