Buck Creek State Park near Springfield, Ohio, centers on C. J. Brown Reservoir, a flood-control lake built as part of the Ohio River drainage system and now used for boating, fishing, and swimming. The area’s history reaches back before American settlement, with Native peoples living there and fighting nearby during the Ohio Country conflicts, including George Rogers Clark’s 1780 campaign against Shawnee communities near Piqua. Settlement expanded after the Battle of Fallen Timbers and the Treaty of Greenville. The park also preserves the 1813 Crabill Homestead, rare glacial wetlands and species, and restored wet prairie within a landscape now used for year-round recreation.
