Marcell Ranger Station in Marcell Township, Minnesota, was built in 1934 and 1935 as headquarters for a new Chippewa National Forest district created after the forest expanded northward in 1933. Constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps on 13 acres along Lake Rainier, it served as the administrative center for major conservation work, including surveys, planting, land acquisition, fish restocking, and fire and erosion monitoring. The complex also stands out for its National Park Service rustic design, using native materials and careful log craftsmanship. It remained in use into the late 20th century and was recognized in 1994 for its architectural, conservation, and governmental significance.
