Guntersville's second theatre, the Bonita, opened here in the fall of 1914 with live vaudeville acts and silent movies. The theatre's name changed to the Cosmo in 1923, and in 1928 it moved across the street and became the Palace Theatre. Attorney Joe Starnes Sr., who served in the U.S. Congress from 1935 to 1945, maintained an office upstairs in the Bonita/Cosmo building.
