Scotts Mountain in Warren County, New Jersey, is part of the New York–New Jersey Highlands section of the Appalachian Mountains, though it stands somewhat isolated west of the main range. Its highest summit reaches 1,086 feet in Harmony, and the mountain extends into several nearby townships. An 1834 account grouped it with the South Mountain chain and described granitic rock breaking through limestone, with wooded, fruitful lower slopes and valleys. That same early description noted iron deposits near Oxford Furnace that had been worked for nearly a century and connected the mountain to iron manufacture by Henry and Jordan, tying its geology to the region’s early development.
