A bell cast in 1860 served the first school in Copperopolis in 1862, and its yoke shows a repair, with the break probably caused by the school fire of 1906. A six pound cannon cast by Cyruss Alger & Co. in 1837 probably came from an abandoned ship in San Francisco. Citizens of Copperopolis presented it to the Union Guard, and it was fired at funerals and on holidays until the early 1900’s.
