Chippewa Moraine State Recreation Area in northwestern Chippewa County, Wisconsin, preserves an outstanding concentration of glacial landforms, making it an important record of Wisconsin’s Ice Age landscape. Its quality and abundance of features earned it a place in the Ice Age National Scientific Reserve, and the Ice Age National Scenic Trail crosses the park. Much of the area remains relatively undeveloped, emphasizing the landscape itself as the chief historic and natural resource. Its principal built feature, the Chippewa Moraine Interpretive Center east of New Auburn, introduces visitors and school groups to the region’s geology, natural history, and cultural history.
