Tue Marshes Light stood at the mouth of the York River in the Chesapeake Bay near Virginia, marking a busy and exposed channel where the river opens into the bay. Built in 1875 at a site once called “Too Marshes,” it was notable for its uncommon square foundation, protective fender pilings, and a keeper’s house with distinctive gingerbread trim. The original lighthouse was dismantled in 1960, and a steel skeleton tower later reused the old foundation until the Coast Guard removed it in 2015. Though nothing of the light survives today, it remains part of the Chesapeake Bay’s lighthouse history.
