Old Fort is a historic archaeological site in Van Meter State Park near Miami, Missouri, identified as Missouri Archaeological Survey Number 23SA104. It consists of an earthwork embankment dating to the period just before or during contact with the first Euro-American explorers. First identified in 1879, the site preserves evidence from Missouri’s early contact era and helps document a pivotal time of cultural encounter and change. Its significance as part of the state’s archaeological record was formally recognized when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
