Morris County, New Jersey, was the site of two Revolutionary War winter encampments for the Continental Army, one of the nation's major iron-producing centers in the 18th and 19th centuries, and a leader in the construction of the Morris Canal, technological advancements from the telegraph to Telstar, aviation and aerospace innovations, and the development and production of armaments for the nation's military conflicts. It was also the residence of national suffragist leaders, noted political cartoonists, architects, and designers, and home to four National Historic Landmark sites.
