After the incorporation of Sylacauga in 1838, this cemetery was established, and for the next 75 years most of the town's citizens were buried there, with many graves now unmarked. In 1974-75, as a tribute to those past generations and a legacy for the future, restoration was carried out through the efforts of the Historical Preservation Committee of the Sylacauga Beautification Council, Inc.
