Vallombrosa Plantation was associated with Governor George Michael Troup, who served as Governor of Georgia from 1823 to 1827 and as a United States Senator from 1816 to 1818 and from 1829 to 1833. He was a champion and militant defender of State Rights, a principle he expressed above all in his answer to President John Quincy Adams: “The argument has been exhausted. You should stand by your arms.” He was honored as a great statesman, a noble warrior, a true Georgian, and an incomparable American.
