Gold Strike Hot Springs is a cluster of thermal springs in Gold Strike Canyon near Hoover Dam on the Arizona-Nevada border, within Lake Mead National Recreation Area. In a steep desert canyon, geothermal water seeps from cliffs into primitive pools, waterfalls, and grottos extending for about two miles, with water emerging near 109°F and cooling into pools generally between 98 and 110°F. Hot springs in the American Southwest were used for thousands of years, and evidence shows human use in this region since Paleo-Indian times. The site is also geologically notable for its faults, intrusions, and spring deposits, while its difficult, hazardous access has led to seasonal trail closures.
