In the early 1950s, the Flying Tigers, known as the 23rd Fighter Interceptor Group, flew the F-86, one of the first swept-wing jet fighters, while stationed at Presque Isle AFB, Maine, providing air defense for the Northeastern United States. This F-86 has been painted to duplicate the aircraft flown by Lt Col John England, for whom England AFB is named.
