Burnet County was formed from portions of Travis, Williamson, and Bell counties. It was created on Feb. 5, 1852, and organized on August 28, 1852. It was named in honor of David G. Burnet (1788-1870), president of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Texas in 1836. Its county seat, Burnet, is famous for its granite mountains.
