The Pigmy Cabin was a typical miner's dwelling during the Gold Rush days. Built in 1860, it was partially destroyed over the years by vandals seeking firewood and souvenirs. Its restoration was completed on September 30, 1980, as a Boy Scout Eagle Project by Michael Sean Henderson of Boy Scout Troop 490 in Cypress, California, with the aid of B.B. Brown as technical advisor from the Big Bear Valley Historical Society, Marion Borrell and the U.S. Forest Service, members of Boy Scout Troop 490 Steve Williamson, Jon K. Phillips, Cris Williamson, Kevin Brown, Doug Markel, Mike Barker, Richard Todd, Michael Todd, and Robby Pruitt, as well as Homestead Supplies, Lyon's Trophies, Riffenburgh Lumber, and I. and B. Baker.
