Hunts Mesa is a rock formation in Monument Valley on the Navajo Nation, south of the Utah-Arizona border. Rising to 6,370 feet, it marks the southeastern edge of Monument Valley and the northern edge of Little Capitan Valley. Within Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, it is one of the two main interior destinations for broad panoramic views of the valley’s sandstone formations, together with Mystery Valley. Access is more limited than the park’s general scenic areas, reached through sand dunes northeast of Kayenta, and hikes require a Navajo guide. On October 16, 1984, a United States Air Force B-52G bomber crashed there, killing two of the seven crewmen.
