Built in 1925, the Kinderheim building first served as a Lutheran foster home for children until 1960, with many of its residents under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court of Chicago and attending the Addison Manual Training School for Boys or the Addison Industrial School for Girls on site. From 1961 until 2000, the building served as Addison’s municipal building. This arch was constructed from the building’s cornerstone, bricks, doorframe, and windowsills, preserving part of a structure through whose doors thousands of people passed during its 75-year lifetime, and under which people still pass on their way to Addison’s new municipal building.
