In Huntington, West Virginia, the Museum of Radio and Technology explores the development of electronic communication and entertainment from pre-electric mechanical music through radio, television, recording, broadcasting, and personal computing. Opened in 1991 in the former Harveytown Elementary School, it is known for free admission and hands-on exhibits, including recreated period spaces, working early radio demonstrations, vintage consumer electronics, amateur and military communications equipment, and a broadcasting studio. Its collections also preserve the history of Harveytown School and honor influential West Virginians in broadcasting, while a library, classroom, and auditorium make it an active community space.
