The house at 45 South Main appears to have been built circa 1832 by Joshua Trotter, who sold it in 1837 to John and Mary Potts. John and Mary Potts were conductors on the Underground Railroad, risking their lives and property to escort runaway slaves on their flight to freedom. The house at 55 South Main was built circa 1831 by Job Burton, who sold it to Edward Potts in 1836. Edward Potts, like his brother John, was also a conductor. Both houses are significant examples of early Federal style brick buildings.
