Nelson County Courthouse was erected in 1809. In September 1974, it was registered as a Virginia Historic Landmark pursuant to the authority vested in the Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission Act of 1966. The property is also listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior.
