This dedication honors recipients of the Purple Heart, the nation's oldest military decoration, and combat-wounded veterans across generations of service. It links the decoration to the years 1782 and 1932 and includes a verse by John Detommaso: “My stone is red for the blood they shed. The medal I bear is my country's way to show they care.
