At the southeast corner of St. Clair and Main Streets, a building originally constructed in the 1850's housed the Oven's Brothers boot and shoe store, later a hardware, then operated as a grocery during the 1950 & 60's and as Carl's Village Mart in the 70's; the last business there was Mollen's Antique Shop before a fire destroyed the building in January 1992. After the fire, the Almont Downtown Development Authority redeveloped the property into a community gathering space with park benches, a fountain, and seasonal plantings. The Catherine G. Leete water fountain, one of Almont's most distinctive landmarks, was given to the Village of Almont by E. Leete as a memorial to his wife, the daughter of Oliver and Mary Goetchius of Almont, and is made of marble with a granite base in a Greek motif.
