In the distance stand several mesas called Tuutukwi, or the Hopi Buttes, sacred places in Hopi religion that today serve as eagle gathering areas for certain Hopi clans. Below are the remains of the East Plaza, a section added after construction of the central room block, possibly to accommodate an expanding population. Like other secondary plazas, it also served special needs such as women's ceremonial performances.
