In April 1857, two Christian Indians, Seahota (Greyfoot) and Makpeyahahoton (Sounding Heavens), braved the wrath of Inkpaduta, a renegade Sioux, after he and his band had killed 42 persons at Spirit Lake, Iowa, in March and carried off four white women as slaves; they rescued one of them, Mrs. Marble, and returned her to her people.
