Pine Ridge National Recreation Area is a protected landscape in northwestern Nebraska's Pine Ridge region, managed by the Pine Ridge Ranger District of the Nebraska National Forest near Chadron. Part of this forested high country, it is known for ponderosa pines and for wildlife including coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, elk, white-tailed deer, mule deer, eagles, hawks, and wild turkeys. The area's significance lies in preserving this distinctive setting while supporting outdoor recreation shaped by the land itself, especially hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking.
