Bois Blanc Light refers to a succession of five lighthouses on Bois Blanc Island in Lake Huron, with two surviving structures. The first, built in 1829 as Lake Huron’s second lighthouse, was kept by the Ward family and later collapsed in 1837 after rising water undermined it. A replacement built inland in 1839 also deteriorated, leading to the construction of the principal historic lighthouse in 1867. Decommissioned in 1924, it was replaced first by an automated skeletal tower and later by the current light. The restored 1867 station remains notable for its surviving complex of service buildings and its place on Michigan’s state historic inventory.
