Fourteen Foot Shoal Light stands at the northern end of Lake Huron, marking a fourteen-foot-deep hazard along a narrow route used by vessels bound toward Chicago. South of Bois Blanc Island, it marks the southern edge of the safe channel opposite Poe Reef Light. Planned from the beginning as an automated station controlled by radio from Poe Reef Light, it was never intended to house a keeper. A temporary buoy was placed there in 1925, construction began in 1929, and the light entered service in 1930. Still active today, it is maintained as an important navigational aid, recognized as a historic place and transferred in 2017 to a local preservation society.
