Built in 1909 and modeled after the Des Moines Fire Station, the Oskaloosa Fire Station originally stood two stories high. The first floor of the 1909 structure housed horses, wagons, and steam engines, while the second floor provided hay storage and fireman's quarters. In 1911, the addition of City Hall resulted in the construction of a third floor. In 2017, the city completed an addition to the fire station that models historic features and accommodates modern equipment.
