Nicholas J Cutinha, a SP4 in the US Army with Company C, Battalion 9, Infantry Regiment 25 Infantry Division, fought near Gia Dinh, Vietnam, on March 2, 1968, when overwhelming Vietnam Cong forces engaged his position. Despite suffering serious wounds, he held the enemy at bay with his machine gun and provided suppressive fire that allowed others to be saved. For his actions and sacrifice, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor and Purple Heart.
