Organized as a mission on August 10, 1874, by the Rev. Thomas Jefferson Milam of Old Boston on the farm of Jesse M. Ball in the Three Springs community, this congregation first met in a meetinghouse built on Ball's property. Samuel D. Knapp (1841?-1922), a charter member who founded the town of Maud and became its first postmaster, donated the present site, and the building was moved there in 1880. The mission became a church in 1897. A tornado destroyed the second building in 1914. The present sanctuary, the church's fourth, was erected in 1940 with funds given by Miss Jennie Tapp and was enlarged in 1956.
