Legend Rock is an archaeological petroglyph site in Wyoming, about twenty miles northwest of Hot Springs State Park in Thermopolis. Nearly three hundred carvings are preserved across its rock face for public viewing, including some of the oldest and finest known examples of Dinwoody rock art. Although the origins of the carvings remain debated, most still survive in place despite erosion and defacement of some figures. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 5, 1973, the site is preserved by the state of Wyoming for the significance of its ancient rock art and what it reveals about the region’s deep human past.
