Sandra Smith was a thirty-seven year member of the Westmont Park District Board of Commissioners. She was an educator and athlete who advocated for recreational opportunities for all, especially for females. Her love of recreation brought her to the Westmont Park District, and her love of dogs led her to the golden retriever rescue group As Good as Gold, where she assisted with the adoption process. One day before her passing, Twin Lakes Woods was renamed in honor of her years of service to the Westmont Park District. Hearing the news, Sandra glowed with pride that those who had become her second family decided to rename the woods. The adjacent bronze statue with girl and puppy dog was a gift to the park and Westmont from Sandra's estate. She was remembered as a friend and advocate who would be missed.
